SURPRISE—I'm writing a fantasy novel! I officially began the process in Summer 2014. I don't want to give away too much / anything about the plot, but it focuses on a young woman who faces immense adversity, and her journey to overcome it. Sounds like every single YA book that's been popular in recent years, but I promise this one is different in some really important and significant ways.
I participated in NaNoWriMo last November, which I failed miserably. I wrote maybe 5,000 words and spent the rest of the month largely procrastinating, editing (which yes, yes I know you aren't supposed to do), and feeling really bad about myself and my ability as a novelist.
But, since then, I participated in an amazing Writer's Digest workshop, where I had my first ten pages reviewed by a real, live AGENT. I won't name her here for privacy reasons, but she was super amazing and told me to query her when my manuscript was done. This gave me a new burst of motivation, and all I want to do is get this manuscript done / polished enough to send out. Hence why I've signed myself up for yet another month-long writing bootcamp.
I'm hoping that maybe having a support group will help me finish my book in time for the next #PitMad in June. I watched on the sidelines during this month's competition in amazement and envy of all the amazing pitches out there. It's kind of overwhelming to think about how many people are trying to get published. I guess here's hoping that my work is good enough to stand out!
If I actually keep to my word (for once), I'll be writing here about my book, and the journey to getting it finished / revised / represented / published.
